WGS/WILL ALUM TO HEAD OBAMA’S RE-ELECTION PUSH IN NJ

A local woman has been named state director of President Barack Obama’s re-election effort in New Jersey, a spokesman for the campaign confirmed yesterday.

Ewing resident Jackie Cornell-Bechelli, 28, who currently serves as legislative and political director with New Jersey Citizen Action, will begin the job on Monday.

“I’m honored and humbled and really excited,” she said. “I think we have a great president, and anything I can do to help re-elect him I’m honored to be a part of.”

Cornell-Bechelli, a 2004 graduate of the College of New Jersey, has been with Citizen Action, a liberal advocacy group, since December 2010.

Prior to that, she served as state director of Organizing for America, a Democratic community-organizing effort born from Obama’s 2008 campaign.

She also spent seven years working with several Planned Parenthood affiliates throughout the state.
