Graduate Certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies Curriculum

The Graduate Certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies offers an advanced program of study grounded in contemporary issues and current scholarship. This program is designed to serve students preparing for further graduate study, those preparing for professional careers, and those already working professionals.

The program can be completed independently or combined with the Master’s program in English or Counseling. A Graduate Bulletin and application for those students desiring a stand-alone Certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies can be found on the Graduate Studies website. Students already enrolled in either Master’s program can add the Gender and Sexuality Studies Certificate by filling out this application and returning it to the Chair of WGSS in Bliss Hall 117.

The 15-credit certificate program consists of:

Core Requirements (6 credits)

Students have three options for covering the core requirements.

Option A

Students take both of the following courses:

  • WGST 510 Feminist Theories
  • WGST 520 Gender Equity in the Classroom

Option B

Students take WGST 510 or WGST 520 and one WGST 670 Topics course.

Option C

Students who have taken Feminist Theories as undergraduates and have either taken Gender Equity in the Classroom as undergraduates or are not preparing for careers in education may take two different WGST 570 or 670 Topics courses.
