Seventeen Magazine

Seventeen Magazine is a magazine geared toward young women that cover different topics including beauty, fashion, love, health and real life. The following information is available for those interested in internships at the magazine:

WHEN IS THE INTERNSHIP HELD?
The internship is held FOUR times during the calendar year. Fall (September-January, deadline for applications is July 15), winter, spring (February-May), and summer (deadline for summer internship applications is March 15).

HOW ARE INTERNS SELECTED?
Only college students, eligible to receive school credit for their work are accepted. The internship is unpaid.

Potential interns are asked to submit a cover letter, resume, and any clips or evidence of work experience (photographs, yearbook layouts, etc.) to the Intern Coordinator. Please indicate which department you are interested in interning for by addressing the submission to that department (i.e. Intern Coordinator: Fashion, or Intern Coordinator: Art/Production).

The cover letter should be specific in terms of where the applicant’s interests and strengths lie, availability to intern, and level of commitment. Ideally, we are looking for interns who can commit to at least three FULL days a week and possess a strong interest in journalism, art, production, fashion, PR or entertainment.

HOW MANY INTERNS ARE HIRED EACH SESSION?
Fall: 5 to 10 interns
Winter: 3 to 5 interns
Spring: 5 to 10 interns
Summer: 10 to 12 interns

WHAT ARE THE INTERNS’ DAILY TASKS?

Fashion:

Call in samples
Assist on photo shoots
Return clothes
Pack trunks for shoots
Organize closets
Make phone calls
Beauty/Fitness:
Please direct mail to Beauty/Fitness Intern Coordinator
Call in new products
Organize closets and shelves
Assist on photo shoots
Features:
Please direct mail to Features Intern Coordinator
Research articles
Participate in focus groups and brainstorming meetings
Set up interviews
Check e-mail boxes
Type articles into QPS
Photocopy, fax, and run errands
Assist editors with daily tasks
Art/Production:
Please direct mail to Art/Production Intern Coordinator
Scan photos
Organize photos
Call in photographers, illustrations, and stock images
Work on layouts
Graphic design or communication design majors preferred.
