National Organization for Women NJ (NOW-NJ)

NOW is the largest, most comprehensive feminist advocacy group in the United States. Our purpose is to take action to bring women into full participation in society – sharing equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities with men, while living free from discrimination.

Interning With NOWNJ::

Membership Management: The Membership Management Internship teaches students interested in non-profit organizational management, women’s studies, marketing or applied grassroots activism how to manage, build, and maintain membership numbers in a non-profit organization.

The student will acquire hands-on experience in calculating target markets for membership, managing databases, writing a state-wide membership development plan for the Board of Trustees, direct mail marketing, and much more in regards to this crucial area of non-profit advocacy work.

Finance Development: The Finance Development Internship is a unique placement for feminist students looking to merge their love of justice with hands on experience in accounting, fundraising and non-profit management. Students interested in non-profit organizational management, women’s studies, accounting or applied grassroots activism are taught how to manage, build, and maintain a financially secure non-profit organization.

The student will work closely with the State Vice President of Finance and the State Vice President of Fundraising to acquire hands-on experience in planning and implementing fundraising events, developing and executing a major donor program, developing a direct mail sustainer program, and writing a state-wide fundraising plan for the Board of Trustees. NOW-New Jersey regards this experience as a crucial area of non-profit advocacy work, and will work to prepare the activist comprehensively in this area.

Much of this job can be done outside of Trenton or at home, as long as the student is able to travel occasionally to work and plan with their supervisors.

Youth Leadership Organizer: The Youth Leadership Internship teaches students interested in non-profit organizational management, women’s studies, youth activism or applied grassroots activism how to manage, build, train, and maintain youth in leadership in a non-profit organization.

The student will acquire hands-on experience in training campus and high school feminists , teaching them skills in lobbying, organizational development, action event planning and much more in regards to this crucial area of non-profit advocacy work. The intern will work closely with NOW-NJ’s Action Vice President, college and high school chapters, and 3rd Wave Task Force Chair to develop new chapters, plan an 3rd Wave Feminist Summit, and train the next generation of feminist leaders.

This position requires a car and much travel. Gas & Toll expenses are reimbursed.

NOW-NJ is a highly hands-on organization dedicated to providing real life experience to their interns and will work with individual professors and departments to tailor the internship to ensure the best integration with the students needs and requirements.
