This is an opportunity for undergraduates to gain hands-on communications and editorial experience at a national nonprofit organization specializing in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and HIV civil rights law.

Responsibilities:
One intern will assist the Editorial Department. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain solid editorial experience in a busy communications department. Duties may include some of the following:
• Some writing for Lambda Legal’s quarterly print and monthly online newsletters and for other online communications
• Some interviewing and reporting for print and online communications
• Transcribing taped interviews
• Proofreading and light copy editing
• Light HTML

One intern will assist the media team. For those wanting to become familiar with the inner workings of a nonprofit communications department this is a great opportunity. Duties include:
• Research media outlets and contacts for input into database
• Up Keep of clip files
• Research various topics for use in news releases or other informational pieces
• Assembling media packets

Interns must be able to work 10 to 15 hours a week between 9:30 and 5:30, Monday through Friday at Lambda Legal’s office, located at 120 Wall Street.

Qualifications
They are seeking two detail-oriented, well-organized individuals with an interest in communications and journalism. A familiarity with issues that are important to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and people with HIV is not necessary but will strengthen an application. Interns should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team and have some experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

Compensation
As this is a nonpaying position, applicants are strongly encouraged to seek out and apply for grants from their school or other sources.

Application
Applicants should send a resume and cover letter — the cover letter should include the applicants’ hours of availability for the semester and the phone numbers and titles of two references to Janna Chan at the address below.

Internships are available for the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters and applications are accepted throughout the year. Early applications are welcome.
People of color and people with disabilities, including HIV, are encouraged to apply. Lambda Legal is an equal opportunity employer.
